11 March 20.00 at Grand hall National Philharmonic of Russia and Pierre Bleuse Perform the Symphony №15

Concert Cycle to Commemorate 115th Shostakovich Birth Goes On

Our large-scale project to commemorate the composer’s 115th birthday goes on! Zaryadye Hall features: all of the composers’ symphonies performed live!

As soon as the day after tomorrow, on the 11th of March, National Philharmonic of Russia and French conductor Pierre Bleuse will perform the Symphony №15, the last written by Shostakovich.

The oeuvre was created in the July of 1971, during the composer’s stay at “Repino”, a resort for professional Soviet composers, and the favourite Shostakovich place to stay and work. The Fifteenth turned out to be his summarizing work, as if Dmitry Dmitrievich were watching himself and his life in general. He cites his own music, as well as some tunes of other composers, Rossini, Mahler, and Wagner among them. Shostakovich entrusted his son Maxim with the mission to conduct the first performance of the Symphony. Maxim Shostakovich did stand at the podium to conduct the USSR All-Union National Radio and Central Television Symphony Orchestra.
