The new series of concerts “I am Composer!” is designed to introduce young listeners and their parents to the works of both classical composers and our contemporaries. Thus the listeners would learn how to understand the language of music.

“The main character” of each concert is a contemporary Russian composer, who will introduce a programme based on his or her own compositions, as well as of some favourite oeuvres of the centuries past. In conversation with curator and culturologist Anna Genina, they will discover how composer works.

For his program, Alexander Tchaikovsky chose his own piece “Distant Dreams for Childhood” for violin, viola, and chamber orchestra, as well as concerts for mandolin of Pergolesi and Paesiello.

Alexander Tchaikovsky is a well-known contemporary Russian composer. He is the Head of the Department of Composition in Moscow conservatory, the art director of Moscow Philharmonic, and the Honorary Chairman of the Council of the Russia’s Composers Union. In mid-2000’s, he worked as Rector of St. Petersburg conservatory, and an advisor in Mariinsky.

He’s the author of 9 operas, 3 ballets, 4 symphonies, and lots of pieces in genres as diverse as oratorios, chamber music, as well as soundtracks and “light” music. Prominent musicians, such as Gergiev, Bashmet, and Marris Janssons are frequent collaborators of Alexander Tchaikovsky.

Alexander Vladimirovich Tchaikovsky would answer some of your questions during the concert, if you send them to icomposer@unioncomposers.ru

Some brilliant representatives of contemporary performing school are featured soloists this night.

Nikita Boriso-Glebsky is a brilliant violinist with stunning technical skills. His career got off to a good start winning competitions in Russia and abroad – 11 of them before he gave them up. He says that it’s time for another, larger, competition, that has got no jury neither criteria. Nikita Boriso-Glebsky’s repertoire is vast, stretching from Bartok, Berio, and Schnittke to contemporary composers, including Alexander Tchaikovsky and Nikita’s good friend, young and promising Kuzma Bodrov.

Nazar Kozhukhar plays violin, viola, viola da gamba; he also is conductor and creator of different events devoted to either early or avant-garde music. Kozhukhar and his ensemble The Pocket Symphony were the first performers of then newly written pieces by Giya Kancheli, Arvo Part, Pawel Karmanov, Alexei Aigi, as well as those of Stockhausen, Nyman etc.

Mandolin player Ekaterina Mochalova graduated from Gnessin Academy. In 2013, she won the All-Russia Music Competition. She was the first Russian to receive the first prize of international mandolin competitions. Ekaterina was the first performer of new pieces written for domra or mandolin by Kuzma Bodrov, Bronner, Volkov, etc.

Yaroslavl Academic Governor’s Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1944. Now it is one of the leading collectives in Russia. The orchestra is a frequent performer at different festivals of contemporary music, like “Moskovskaya Osen” in Moscow, the Ivanovo Festival of Contemporary Music, etc.

Murad Annamamedov, a pupil of great Gennadiy Rozhdestvensky, leads the collective since 1994.
