In “Zaryadye” Hall, the famous dancer well known for his raging power presents world premier: “Red Riding Hood” ballet, to the music of Kirill Richter. This is a brand new production of a young English choreographer Ross Freddie-Ray, famous for his “Fake Smile” ballet shown in “Zaryadye” last season.

The show, according to Polunin, is a family entertainment. For a child it may be funny, charming, and beautiful, while for an adult the serious dramatic implication is evident. Though this is a classic ballet, in almost gothic style, “with pointe shoes and pas de deux”, but it has certain contemporary art feel to it due to the costumes, decoration, and music.

The old fairy tale is the basis for a new story. The heroine is 19 years old now, while her lover – a murder suspect and an outcast – the Woodcutter (played by Polunin) is 23. A girlfriend of Red Riding Hood appears, and Big Bad Wolf turns out to be a cunning and charismatic seducer…
