Kazuhito Yamashita, classic guitar (Japan)

One of the most renowned classical guitarists of the world. A virtuoso with a stunning stage presence. First time in Moscow for 20 years.

Kazuhito Yamashita released an album of his arrangements of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” when he was only twenty years old, and the album was duly given the Deutsche Grammophon Award. The album made a real sensation in the music world, for it changed the view of technical and sonic possibilities of guitar. Further guitar Yamashita’s arrangements of virtuosi piano music were making sensation, too: “Firebird” of Stravinsky, Dvořák’s Symphony No 9 "New World", Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade”, Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody No 2”… Kazuhito Yamashita’s virtuosity and vast repertoire (from Renaissance to modern times), as well as a very versatile playing, made him second to none.

Kazuhito Yamashita was born in 1961 in Nagasaki, Japan. He started playing guitar at the tender age of eight, under the tuition of his father. By his sixteens, he has already became winner of many international guitar competition. And he tours Japan, Europe, Canada, USA, Great Britain, and Asia since 1978.

To date, he has released a total of 83 albums (via BMG, Crown Classics, Victor Records, King Records, Alfa Records) with either original music or his arrangements.

Yamashita doesn’t limit himself to only solo concerts, indeed, he plays duos with other guitarists, as well as with chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras. He plays with world famous musicians, and with his own children – as their family quartet. Kazuhito Yamashita is a champion of new guitar music – he premiered more than 60 new pieces. In 1999, at the National Festival of Arts the government of Japan awarded Gran-Prix for his album with Japanese music of 1923-1948 years.

The concert is a part of the International festival of classic guitar “Magiya Gitary” (“Magic of Guitar”), in memory of A.A.Khorev. Art director – Anatoly Izotov.
