“Everything about Opera:
What is Belcanto?”
Moscow Theatre “Novaya Opera”
Conductor – Ilya Norstein

The concert is cancelled

The Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow presents a cycle of daytime educational concerts for parents with children "All About Opera". In winter-spring 2021, two programs are planned in the Great Hall of the Zaryadye - "What is Bel canto" and "Literature and Opera". The concerts are held in the year of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the theater and the 75th anniversary of the birth of its first artistic director, the great Russian conductor Yevgeny Kolobov (1946 - 2003). Participants are leading soloists, a symphony orchestra and conductors. The most important element of the programs is the commentary, addressed to both children and adults, to those people who do not feel quite confident in the world of opera, but would like to know more about it. It is assumed that in the future viewers will get acquainted not only with opera as a thing in itself (eras, styles, great composers and works, operatic voices, etc.), but also with the life of opera, its influence on minds. The programs are commented by the music critic, expert, head of the literary section of the Novaya Opera Mikhail Segelman.

"What is Bel canto" program examines this style in its historical connections. In a narrow sense, the era of bel canto (literally translated as "beautiful singing") is usually called the first half of the 19th, the time when three geniuses lived and worked - G. Rossini, V. Bellini and G. Donizetti. However, the distant origins of bel canto are in the Baroque (XVII century), and the influence of this style extends to music (not only Italian!) Of the XIX and even XX centuries. The main focus of the program is compositions by Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti. In addition, music by A. Sartorio, W. Mozart and G. Verdi will be performed.
