The State Symphony Capella of Russia under Valery Polyansky’s leadership consists of over 200 performers and comprises a choir, an orchestra and soloist singers. Russian and international critics praise its profound interpretation solutions, the high culture of ensemble performance and impeccable sense of style.

The State Symphony Capella of Russia was founded in 1991 through merger of the USSR State Chamber Choir under the leadership of Valeri Polyansky and the State Symphony Orchestra of the USSR Ministry of Culture headed by Gennady Rozhdestvensky.

Both music teams have a long-term success story. The orchestra was founded in 1957 and was the orchestra of the USSR radio and television until 1982. At various periods of its history, it was headed by such renowned conductors as Samuil Samosud, Semyon Aranovich and Maxim Shostakovich. Mr Polyansky established the chamber choir in 1971.

In 1980, the Capella became the State Chamber Orchestra of the USSR Ministry of Culture. The choir with Mr Polyansky initiated the Polotsk musical festival attended by Irina Arkhipova, Oleg Yanchenko and ensemble of the Bolshoi Theatre soloists. In 1986, Svyatoslav Richter invited Polyansky and his choir to present Pyotr Tchaikovsky programme at the December Soirees festival and to perform the “All-Night Vigil” by Sergei Rachmaninoff in 1994. At the same time, the choir started its triumphant performance at international music festivals (Wratislavia Cantans (Czechia), in Merano and Spoleto (Italy), in Izmir (Turkey), in Naarden (Netherlands)). The choir participated in the famous BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall (UK) and concerts in the major French cathedrals in Bordeaux, Amiens and Albi.
