Noviy Russkiy Quartet
The ensemble’s name shows that the musicians remain faithful to the great Russian performing tradition and at the same time conquest the new peaks of chamber music performance. The creative range of a quartet reaches from the Viennese classics up to very contemporary music and jazz compositions, naturally includes the masterpieces of Russian composers. The broad repertory (apart from quartet music from Haydn to jazz including works to perform with chamber and even symphony orchestras), great experience in matching with other musicians (from quintets to octet) and a lot of famous friends of NRQ to attract to participating in concerts as well as always warm reception from the audience open for the Ensemble the widest horizons of music making worldwide.
The New Russian Quartet was formed in 2008 in Moscow. By that time, the expert musicians have been collaborating with such stars as Jessye Norman, Nikolai Petrov, Valentin Berlinsky, Vladimir Spivakov, Eliso Virsaladze, Natalia Gutman, and Yuri Bashmet. Performances with Alexander Rudin, Alexey Volodin, Vadim Kholodenko, Lyudmila Berlinskaya, as well as some other prominent musicians were added to the list.
The band don’t shy away from experiments. Indeed, they experiment with either rock music or poetry. “Dialogue with the Quartet” was the programme created with Moscow Art Theatre actor Shnyryov – a unique theatre of one actor plus one quartet. Crossover programme with renowned jazz pianist composer Daniil Kramer was a success, among either jazz audience or classical music aficionados.
The New Russian Quartet tours Russia, as well as UK, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Korea, Netherlands, Croatia, China etc.
The NRQ discography includes recordings of clarinet quintets by J. Brahms and M. Reger (with V. Gorokholinsky), N. Medtner and D. Shostakovich (with L. Berlinskaya), quartet works and ensembles by L. Desyatnikov, S. Akhunov and many others. The album "Cinemaphonia", released in 2015 on the legendary Russian recording label "Melodiya", received excellent reviews in the European press.
The musicians use only ancient instruments built by Italian masters such as Panormo, Gofriller, Amati, and Roggeri. The instruments are granted by the State collection of the unique music instruments.
