French baroque
"Courtly Arias"

Air de cour ("courtly arias") is a very common type of vocal music at the end of the 16th - first half of the 17th century in France for one or more voices accompanied by instruments. A great admirer of this genre was King Louis XIII, who not only performed with pleasure, but also composed some very expressive air de cour. The concert will feature arias by Boesse and the so-called “brunettes” by Monteclair – pastoral arias in the genre of gavotte or sarabande, which mention beautiful female or male brunettes in some of the lyrics. The program will be complemented by Couperin's suite France from the Nations cycle, which will allow listeners to immerse themselves in the musical atmosphere of the court of Louis IV.
