Mariinsky Symphony orchestra
Valery Gergiev and Mao Fujita

In “Zaryadye”, Mao Fujita, a finalist of the 16th Tchaikovsky Competition, plays only Rachmaninov!

Mao’s rendition of Rachamninov’s Piano Concert №3 during Tchaikovsky Competition turn out to become his real triumph. The pianist showed all his dexterity and talent. He repeated that very concert during Mariinsky’s Festival “Faces of Contemporary Pianism” in December, 2019 – that time with conductor no less than maestro Gergiev himself.

Fujita, high on the heels of his success at the Tchaikovsky Competition, impresses his audience with his pinpoint accuracy. But it’s not the only point of his style; actually, it’s his unique sound. “Celestial”, “sunny”, and “crystal clear” are the epithets used by music critics after they have heard the young virtuoso for the first time. It’s no wonder that the twenty-year old not only got his 2nd prize at Tachaikovsky’s Competition, but – in 2016 – the 3rd Prize at Gina Bachauer’s Competition, and in 2017 у won the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition.
