Ural Philharmonic Orchestra
Conductor – Dmitry Liss

Nathalie Forget, ondes Martenot (France)
Roger Muraro, piano (France)
The programme of the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra concert can be regarded as an eloquent hymn of love, for the main theme of “Daphnis et Chloé” is a romance of shepherd and shepherdess, while “Turangalîla-Symphonie”, according to its creator, is “a love song … a hymn to joy … a joy that is superhuman, overflowing, blinding, unlimited. Love is present here in the same manner: this is a love that is fatal, irresistible, transcending everything…”.

Two soloists are required to perform “Turangalîla-Symphonie”: pianist and musician who plays an instrument called ondes Martenot, (French for “Martenot waves”). The latter instrument was invented in the twentieth of last century, by a man whose name was Martenot.

Nathalie Forget was unanimously awarded the First Prize in ondes Martenot at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris.

She's also very invested in contemporary music, improvisation, and rock music (Ensemble Itinéraire, Faust, Radiohead) and in premiering radical new repertoire for the instrument. Forget is ondes Martenot professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris.

Funny, but Roger Muraro had started his music education as saxophone player, but later taught himself to play piano, and switched to the instrument. While still at Paris Conservatory, when he was nineteen, he got acquainted with Olivier Messiaen, and pretty soon gained recognition as one of the leading performers of the composer’s music.

Every year, the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra plays more than hundred concerts, and represents more than 70 programmes at the largest venues of the world. The ensemble initiated, and participated in, numerous international projects of their region’s scale, that take place in Sverdlovsk Philharmonic.

The Orchestra’s art director and chief conductor Dmitry Liss is art director of one of those festivals, called “Evraziya” (“Eurasia”). Liss became the leader of the orchestra in 1995, and the musicians has toured 20 countries ever since. Among others, record labels Warner Classics and Mirare commissioned recordings of the Orchestra, and its discography contains 36 CDs.
