You just can’t think about the history of Russian cinema without State Symphony Cinema Orchestra in mind, and its chief, Sergey Skipka, who leads the legendary orchestra for more than 20 years now. The legendary collective had been established back in 1924, and since that time it was constantly busy recording music – for masterpieces by Eisenstein, Pudovkin, Bondarchuk to name a few, as well as for contemporary movies of Nikita Mikhalkov, Andrey Konchalovsky and other prominent directors.
Great composers worked with the orchestra, such as Sergey Prokofiev, Dmitri Shostakovich, Isaak Dunayevsky, Alfred Schnittke, etc.
It’s not unusual for the Orchestra to play popular tunes from foreign cinema, like evergreens from Oscar-winning movies ranging from “Gone With the Wind” and “West Side Story” to the recent hits as “The Grand Budapest Hotel” or “La La Land”.
Soloists:
Anna Buturlina is a renowned jazz singer and music artist. She worked with the greatest Russian big-bands, and released several solo albums. She is a staple at biggest jazz festivals in Russia. She also records vocals for movies and cartoons. She is Elsa in Russian “Frozen”!
Ivan Ozhogin is a musical artist. He performed main roles in Russian versions of “Chocago”, “Cats”, “Beauty and the Beast”, and famous long-running Russian production “Nord Ost”. His breakthrough was “Golden Mask” winning role of Count von Krolock in “The Fearless Vampire Killers”. In 2013, he starred in the German adaptation, “Tanz der Vampire”, at Berlin “Theater des Westens”.
