Big concert for Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year Gala
Soochow Chinese Orchestra
Conductor Pen Tszyapen
Every year during the time of Spring Festival, one of the best Chinese orchestra leaves for international tour.

The project “Chinese New Year Gala” has been travelling the world since 1998. In 2019 such a concert will be performed in several cities: Dresden and Hamburg, Lucerne and Budapest, Warsaw and Saint-Petersburg. Moscow, too, will enjoy it on the 9th of February, in the Big hall of “Zaryadye”.

This time, the Soochow Chinese Orchestra is touring. Maestro Pen Tszyapen, the legendary erhu player Zhu Changyao, a talented cello player Kang Qiaoxiuan, as well as more than 90 orchestra musicians will introduce public to both joyful Chinese New Year mood and zen contemplation.

The music will transfer listeners to picturesque places, where waters of creek reflect the moon, while the sounds of solo cello will tell you some secrets of a dream of a butterfly, the incarnation of Chinese wisdom.

The Soochow Symphony Orchestra works closely with quite a few contemporary Chinese composers. On the regular basis the orchestra orders them new pieces, in order not only to discover traditional sound and soul of Chinese music, but also to experiment with some new material. On the 9th February audience will get to know some new arrangements of traditional Chinese melodies, made by Zhu Changyao and Pen Suwen.
