Polina Shamaeva, mezzo-soprano

Winner of the Big Opera TV Competition (2017)
Piano – Maria Oselkova

Polina Shamayeva is one of the most successful young singers. She is a soloist in the Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow and the Hungarian State Opera House. In 2017, Shamayeva won the Big Opera TV Competition at Russia-K. Her performance of Russian and European opera and religious music is equally impressive.

Shamayeva graduated from the Victor Popov Academy of Choral Art with degrees in choral conducting (in 2011) and solo singing (in 2016). She performed in the Queen of Spades (Polina) and Iolanta (Laura and Marta) by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, the Tsar's Bride (Dunyasha) by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Rusalka (Princess) by Alexander Dargomyzhsky, and participated in CD recording of Les Noces by Igor Stravinsky (conducted by Gennady Dmitryak), Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky (conducted by Vladimir Spivakov) and Mozart’s Requiem (conducted by Oleg Romanenko).

Shamayeva’s repertoire is comprised of over 40 cantatas and oratorios. In April 2019, she performed in Zaryadye Grand Hall during the first Moscow’s performance of Bach’s St Mark Passion reconstructed by Jorn Boyzen.

On 13 May 2019, the singer will perform solo for the first time. She selected a programme that could be divided into “Eastern” and “Western” parts.

The first part includes Zarema’s Monologue from the Fountain of Bakhchisaray by Anton Arensky and popular Russian romances (Zuleika by Anton Rubinstein, Gipsy Song and Do Not Sing to Me, My Beauty by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and others).

The second part consists of Spanish music (from the Seven Spanish Songs by Manuel de Falla to famous Habanera by Georges Bizet).

Maria Oselkova, a winner of international competitions, a frequent participant of international vocal competitions as a concertmaster and a performing musician, will play the piano.
