Petr Tchaikovsky – Sergei Abir. “Children's Album”
World premiere of a new orchestra version

If Tchaikovsky wrote his “Children's Album” not for piano but for symphony orchestra it would have sounded exactly as it would on December 20th in “Zaryadye”. The orchestrated version was created by musicologist Sergei Abir (Ritsarev), an acclaimed master of orchestration. He is the author of a Christoph Willibald Gluk’s biography, the only book about the author of “Orfeo ed Euridice” in the Soviet Union.

Abir’s orchestrated version of Tchaikovsky’s “The Seasons” is in repertoire of several world’s orchestras (the recording was made by Vasily Petrenko with Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra). His orchestral versions on par with Passacaglia of Bach/Webern, “Pictures at an Exhibition” of Mussorgsky/Ravel, or Bethoveens’ symphonies with Mahler’s innovative approach.

“Children's Album” reflects the whole life journey on a great scale, with width and passion, fun and games, meditation and melancholy, while different folk dances – those of French, German, Italian, Polish, and Russian people – is a kind of foresight of the United Europe of the future. Did Tchaikovsky – a person of European mentality, who spent almost half of his life abroad – thought of Russia as an integral part of Europe?

The other oeuvres of the programme are philosophical and meditative, too. For instance, “Thus Spoke Zarathustra” (or “Thus Spake Zarathustra”), a tone poem by Richard Strauss. So, what did Zarathustra used to say? "When Zarathustra was thirty years old, he left his home and the lake of his home, and went into the mountains. There he enjoyed his spirit and his solitude, and for ten years did not weary of it. But at last his heart changed, and rising one morning with the rosy dawn, he went before the sun, and spoke to it thus:
You great star! What would your happiness be, had you not those for whom you shine?" The Nietzsche’s novel starts with this words.

Strauss marked his oeuvre “opus 30”, and we’ll listen to it during the 30th birthday party of out newspaper.

Also in the programme the world premiere of Concerto grosso “MO/Opus 30/2019/Liberta”, a “collective creation” of five contemporary Russian composers, the famous Sergey Nevsky, Dmitry Kourlyandsky, Alexey Syumak, Nikolai Popov, and Alexander Khubeev.
