However, today the West knows Behzod Abduraimov much better than we Russians do. He was born and got his primary music education in Tashkent, the capitol of Uzbekistan. In Soviet times the level of the city’s culture matched up to those of Moscow, Leningrad, and Kiev. It was that time when the child prodigy Behzod first attracted attention of most sophisticated listeners.

Tamara Popovich, his first music tutor, had a basic pedagogical principle: each and every pupil she teaches should know how to play pieces of any difficulty, as well as perform with orchestra. That’s why, probably, when you listen to Behzod now, you really don’t notice his technical abilities, for his performance is so natural.
At the age of 16, the pianist moved to the USA, where he continued his piano education with Stanislav Yudenich.

Nowadays Behzod Abduraimov performs with the greatest contemporary conductors at the most prestigious scenes throughout the world.
Valery Gergiev has played a significant role in his development as a professional musician. “Playing with maestro Geriev, I always have so many very special feelings, - Behzod confesses. – Though the two of us don’t always have too much time to rehearse together, but a nice immediacy lends a performance a special nerve. You create onstage, rather than play what is pre-rehearsed and planned”.
