The Bolshoi Theatre’s Ensemble of violinists

This is the real music legend. Yuli Reentovich founded The Bolshoi Theatre’s Ensemble of violinists in 1956 to Russian and international acclaim. “The very first steps of the ensemble show brilliant perspectives – the ensemble will definitely contribute to the construction of Soviet music culture”, Dmitry Shostakovich predicted.

The ensemble toured extensively Soviet Union as well as abroad. “Melodiya” record label released more than thirty their LPs, while some records were in heavy radio rotation. Millions of people were fans of the ensemble.

In 2014, after thirty-year hiatus, the ensemble was born again. Now, just like many years ago, each and every violin sounds unique, while together they weave beautiful sound fabric.

Now, despite busy working in Bolshoi, the musicians find time to make music together, and the ensemble tours heavily. “Their task is more complicated, than the one of soloist, because they turn virtuoso repertoire into pieces for the whole ensemble”, conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky would say.
