“Only Love”. Romances of the Silver Age

Yana Ivanilova, soprano
Ekaterina Dershavina, piano
“Her technical skills are superb, and her beautiful voice flows like river with its elegant phrasing and subtlest manner”, western critics wrote about Yana Ivanilova. Hailed as one of the best Russian chamber singers, Ivanilova used to be a soloist of Moscow “Novaya Opera”, guest soloist in Bolshoi, and performed with such great musicians as Yevgeny Svetlanov, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Mikhail Pletnev, Saulius Sondeckis, Kent Nagano, Vladimir Spivakov…

Her wide repertoire stretches from Nikolai Medtner’s romances (recorded with pianist Boris Berezovsky) and Valentin Silvestrov’s vocal cycle “Stupeni” (“Steps”; recorded with pianist Alexey Lyubimov) to different classical and contemporary works.

In the Small Hall of “Zaryadye” Yana Ivanilova will perform with Ekaterina Dershavina. Dershavina, a well-known piano player, a winner of numerous international competitions and a frequent performer at European music festivals, is arguably one of the best performers of Russian piano music of early 20th century. The program that Yana Ivanilova and Yekaterina Derzhavina present this night can be regarded as unique, for all these pieces are a rare pleasure for a music aficionado to listen. Particularly, the set list includes the only vocal oeuvre of Scriabin, Romance for voice and piano, and pieces of undeservedly forgotten composers of the Silver Age, Georgy Catoire and Alexei Stanchinsky, as well as piano preludes by Boris Pasternak, written by the poet under strong Scriabin’s influence.
