“This is the best incarnation of Mozart ideas. Every detail has been scrutinized, every aspect of the composer’s art underlined with disarming honesty that makes you wanna cry”.
Financial Times, Shirley Apthorp

Zaryadye Hall is happy to invite you to watch the live broadcasting of famous Mozart opera “Don Giovanni”, performed by orchestra and choir musicAeterna, with Teodor Currentzis as the conductor. The cast includes Davide Luciano in the title role, the wonderful Nadezhda Pavlova as Donna Anna, Federica Lombardi as Donna Elvira, Anna Lucia Richter as Zerlina, Vito Priante as Leporello and Michael Spyres as Don Ottavio. Romeo Castellucci is the director. Every new project of Romeo Castellucci immediately attracts attention of both critics and audience, with vivid discussion to follow. No wonder: his productions always top the theatre world “hit parade”. “The most unusual Giovanni the world has ever seen”, Fest’s Artistic Director Markus Hinterhäuser described the production in an interview.

Right before the broadcast starts, famous music critic, theatre scholar, and permanent participant of the Festival Alexey Parin will talk about main opera production of the recent years, as well as about Castellucci and Currentzis contribution to opera genre.

Salzburg Festival is the largest and prestigious event in the realm of classical music. This year the Fest marks its 100 years jubilee!

The Festival’s opera programme, which is considered to be main part of the event, was opened by Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”, while musicAeterna is the only Russian collective to have honor to open the programme. In 2017, musicAeterna orchestra and choir first performed in Salzburg in Currentzis & Peter Sellars production “The Clemency of Titus”. The ensemble has been a constant participant ever since. In 2018, musicAeterna performed all Beethoven’s symphonies, and in 2019 Sellar’s production “Idomeneo” was performed by musicAeterna choir in collaboration with Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, with Currentzis as the conductor.

The MusicAeterna orchestra (with its associated choir) was founded by conductor Teodor Currentzis in 2004. Musicians from 12 countries and 20 cities are members of the ensemble, and its repertoire embraces both ancient and modern music, masterpieces and iconic pieces of 19-20th centuries, as well as daring experimental works by contemporary composers. Both Orchestra and Choir are constant participants of high-acclaimed international festivals, and perform at only best venues in Russia and abroad. Since the fall of 2019, musicAeterna has status of independent music collective. Last December saw the opening of musicAeterna residency in St Petersburg House of Radio; it helps unite creative and educational programmes, as well as experimental and scholar projects that embrace different areas of contemporary art.
