The Scarlet Flower
Musical Fairy Tale

The Moscow State Symphony Orchestra for Children and Youth
Narrator – Daniil Spivakovsky
Based on the “Scarlet Flower” by Sergei Aksakov

The never-ending story of the great power of love ... A young girl became fond of the Beast. Her love has broken the spell and the Beast turned into a handsome Prince ... A Russian writer Sergei Aksakov heard this story from his housekeeper Pelagia and wrote a fairy tale, which was first published in 1858.

Since then, the “Scarlet Flower” has “bloomed” in cinema (“Scarlet Flower”, 1977 and “The Tale of the Merchant's Daughter and the Mysterious Flower”, 1992), animation art, and both in musical theatre (ballets by Thomas de Hartmann and Clementi Korchmarev), and in drama theatre (a performance by the Moscow Pushkin Drama Theatre).

Nevertheless, this fairy tale has never been transformed into a musical performance at the philharmonic stage. Recently, a popular film and theatre actor Daniil Spivakovsky has taken a fancy for this new format. In close collaboration with several musical teams, he created, in fact, a new genre: stage reading of Russian and foreign classics accompanied by a symphony orchestra performance. This time, Daniil Spivakovsky collaborated with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra for Children and Youth, the only symphony group in the world that designates most of its efforts to the musical and aesthetic education of the younger generation.
