Sergey Starostin – voice, reeds. Pyotr Glavatskhikh – marimba, percussion. Folk band “Kladetz”

Creative adaptations of Russian folk music
The word “Veer” is a dialect Russian word for underwater spring. Also this is the title for the new program of Sergey Starostin, a world famous folk singer, reedist, and ethnograph, and Pyotr Glavatskhikh, a percussionist who plays a multitude of drumming instruments. They dubbed their program “Veer” in order to underline the idea that it’s the Russian folklore that serves as the purest eternal spring which feeds the whole Russian culture, though the fact might not seem obvious. The set includes folk season songs, cantatas of Peter the Great times, as well as original music written by Starostin and Glavatskhikh. “We do follow the tradition, but we put it through the prism of present times, as well as through our personal experience”, Glavatskhikh explains. “That’s the way we want to demonstrate that Russian folklore is living and constantly developing genre, rather than an exhibit form an ethnographic musem”.
